Our Mission
The Environmental Problem 🐄
The pet food industry is estimated to be responsible for a quarter of the environmental impact of meat production. Consumption of meat by our pets in the UK, Europe and USA is thought to contribute to more than 144 million tonnes of C02 emissions annually (that’s the equivalent of 31.3 million gas guzzling cars driven for a whole year - note: there’s 33 million cars in the UK…), with an average size dog being responsible for 770 kg CO2 a year. This damaging impact of western society’s overconsumption of meat on the environment has become clear in recent years, as well as rising concerns on how farm animals are treated.
The Nutritional Problem 🏭
Finding dog nutritional products filled with honest, natural ingredients can be a challenge. Many dog supplements are plagued by pseudoscience, using ingredients with limited or no clinical research and are often not approved for dog consumption, with ingredient opacity making it hard to find clear nutritional details or active ingredient levels.
Commercial meat-based nutritional products rarely provide a balanced diet. They typically use low-quality ingredients including by-products, fillers such as grains and artificial additives which are difficult for dogs to digest. These can cause digestive problems, obesity issues, skin & coat conditions and in the long term, risk chronic health conditions such as diabetes, kidney disease and heart disease.

The Solution - Plant Science Dog Nutrition 🌱
Scientific research has shown that dogs digest plant proteins well and that many of the essential nutrients from plants cannot be found in animal based products. Dogs became omnivores thousand of years ago, because of their domestication and close association with us humans. So they’re well suited to a plant-based diet, as the essential vitamins, minerals, phytochemical and antioxidants found in plants help keep their cells healthy, their body in balance and their immune system functioning at its best.
At Balgo we want to elevate your dog's health, vitality and longevity, using plant science. So our nutritionist and veterinary team select only human-grade, science backed ingredients derived from plants to create the healthiest dog supplements.
Our Ingredients 🍳
We use non-GMO raw materials which are ethically sourced along with cutting-edge synthetically produced active ingredients. Our supplements include dry extracts from plants (whenever we can source them), which are 10x more potent than standard plant powders. This means your dog gets a more effective supplement, containing consistent levels of active ingredients, ensuring they receive the same high-performing product with every chew. We’re certified by The Vegan Society, so all our products are 100% vegan to help reduce Greenhouse Gas emissions and animal cruelty and we meet FEDIAF guidelines (European Pet Food Industry Federation).
